As Saudi Aramco’s worldwide headquarters, Dhahran is our center for finance, exploration, engineering, drilling services, medical services and materials supply organizations, amongst others.
With a total population of approximately 10,000, Dhahran is the largest of all the Saudi Aramco communities. Since its development in the 1930s-1940s it has gained many modern facilities, while the older section of Dhahran is still a very attractive environment with tree lined streets, stone houses and grass lawns.
Dhahran has two sections - Dhahran’s main community and Dhahran Hills – which are separated by the Rolling Hills Golf Course and Club House.
The main community is located at the site of the original Dhahran camp and contains the administration complex, health centre, dental clinic, library and theater. You’ll also find the community’s Al Mujamma’ Community Service Center – a mall-type complex housing the Customer Care Center (CCC), housing office, travel office, and other essential facilities. The bank and commissary (supermarket) are
close by.
When it’s time to relax, or get some exercise, you can take advantage of the two recreation complexes, with swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, bowling alley, movie theater and many other sport and leisure facilities. Dhahran also has a Hobby Farm (horse stables), bike/jogging paths and a rugby field.
Dhahran Hills is a mostly residential area, located about two miles west of Dhahran and just beyond the community’s golf course. The Dhahran Hills School (kindergarten through to fifth grade) is located in the Hills, alongside a third large community recreation center, similar to the ones in the main part of Dhahran.
Dhahran’s marina and beach facilityare just 40 minutes away at Half Moon Bay - a small inlet of the Arabian Gulf. The bay’s beautiful clear blue water and fine white sand make this a popular gathering spot for many Dhahran community residents to relax, or enjoy sailing, fishing or water-skiing.
The local town of Al-Khobar is just a 15 - 20 minute drive from Dhahran, where you’ll find a wide variety of shops, restaurants and other retail outlets. The Al Rashid Mall is a very popular large shopping centre on the Saudi Aramco side of Al-Khobar, while another favourite shopping destination is the Mall of Dhahran, with over 200 stores and 26 food outlets.
