Our newest family community, Udhailiyah is approximately 100 miles southwest of our headquarters in Dhahran and has a current population of around 1,000. Its residents are mainly employees of the Southern Area Oil and Gas Organizations and medical professionals who work at Saudi Aramco’s Al-Hasa Clinic.
Udhailiyah offers a variety of amenities – bank, mail center, and other daily essentials - and leisure facilities. Most of the homes and townhouses are new and modern, and you’ll find flowering plants and trees growing all around the community
Recreational facilities include a swimming pool, bowling alley, tennis, squash and racquetball courts, separate state-of-the-art exercise rooms for men and women, children’s paddling pool, saunas and jacuzzis. As in other Saudi Aramco family communities, there’s also an 18-hole grassless golf course - but this most scenic one is uniquely carved out of the jebels that surround Udhailiyah. Other entertainment choices include a movie theater and fully supervised Youth Centre.
At present in Udhailiyah, there are several self-directed groups including a Women’s Group that sponsors trips to the local market and offers cooking classes and art sessions. Other groups include Badminton, Tennis, Golf and a Kennel Club.
Udhailiyah has a large selection of items in its commissary, stocking many grocery goods and household products. However, unlike the other family communities, there are no local supermarkets within easy reach outside the community.
The nearest shopping centre is Hofuf. We run scheduled buses to Hofuf three times a week, and the journey takes about 45-60 minutes. Hofuf has some very interesting historical spots worth visiting in addition to its abundance of gold shops, fabric stores, houseware stores, fish and vegetable markets and small grocery stores. And, with many handmade items for sale, the women’s 'suq' in Hofuf shouldn’t be missed.
Please note that women should dress more conservatively in Hofuf than some of the other local Arab towns.
If you want to go further afield for a wider selection of shops, then you can take a company-provided bus to Dhahran and Khobar. The journey takes about two hours each way.
