Women Discuss Leadership in Energy
HOUSTON, January 06, 2010 - About 600 people gathered at the 2009 Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy and Technology in Houston recently. The discussions were far-ranging and included the role of the media in the energy industry, leveraging cultural differences in organizations, and the effects of carbon policy on businesses and consumers.
Reem Al-Ghanim of Aramco Services Co. (ASC) joined representatives from Marathon Oil, Noble Energy, Baker Petrolite and Big Brothers Big Sisters on a panel called “Transitioning in Your Careers and Achieving Results.”
A key insight from the discussion was that the right combination of vision, visibility and values can help bring about career success. At the request of the moderator, Al-Ghanim was also asked to discuss Saudi Aramco’s College Degree Program for Non-Employees, including the female program, which was presented as a best practice in helping attract and retain talent in technical fields.;
The mission of the Women’s Global Leadership Conference is to provide a global gathering to meet and discuss leadership in the energy industry. The conference strives to provide meaningful discussion on all aspects of responsible stewardship ranging from energy security and geopolitics to personal career development.
“It was an honor to represent my company at a conference with some of the most accomplished and experienced professionals in the energy industry,” said Al-Ghanim.
Al-Ghanim served as an advisory board member for the event, and Alma Kombargi of ASC Public Affairs has served previously on the conference’s board. ASC and several other major oil companies were the conference sponsors.
