Minimum Requirements
*Graduate of approved Medical School with a valid license to practice medicine.
*Three (3) years of psychiatric residency training program approved by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, or an equivalent certifying body( from Europe, Australia, New Zeeland and South Africa). Certification for examination by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology or equivalent certifying body.
*Preferred candidates with subspecialty/experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
*At least two (2) years of experience as a full-time Psychiatrist, post training.
*Fluency in both Arabic and English languages is required.
*Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of professional work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
Duties and responsibilities
Provides the full range of psychiatric diagnostic and treatment modalities to patients, in both inpatients and outpatient settings, sharing the workload with the other Psychiatrists within the Service.
If sub-specialty residency training in child psychiatry has been completed, (s)he also provides outpatient and inpatient treatment to children and adolescents.
Takes after-hours and weekend calls in rotation with other staff Psychiatrists.
Responds to consultation requests from other services, received either directly or when on-call, by offering clinical advice or assuming full responsibility for the mental health care of the patient.
Contributes to the orientation of other SAMSO physicians, other mental health personnel, social workers, nurses and other Medical Organization personnel in the early detection, recognition, management or referral of psychiatric cases.
Participates in the continuing medical education for physicians and nurses by providing in-service training, Journal Club presentations, presenting cases in ward rounds, and lecturing to SAMSO units upon request.
Administers Electroconvulsive therapy under general anesthesia in the recovery room.
Participates in quality assurance programs.
Remains current with the professional literature and with CME requirements for licensure.
