The expansion of Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery – a refining and marketing joint venture between a Saudi Aramco subsidiary and a Shell Oil affiliate – completed its expansion project in 2012. This added 325,000 bpd of capacity to the refinery, for a total plant capacity of 600,000 bpd. The expansion makes it the world’s sixth-largest refinery and the largest in North America, and raises Motiva’s refining capacity to 1.105 million bpd.
In 2013, the joint venture ramped up production and achieved design capacity on the crude oil unit. Additionally, all of the other new units were operating at, or near, design capacity at the end of 2013. Moving forward, we will continue to maximize throughputs and raise volumes where possible.
